  • ECTS Credit Allocation

ECTS is a student-centered credit accumulation and transfer system based on learning outcomes and the transparency of the learning process. ECTS aims to facilitate planning, delivery, evaluation, recognition, and validation for qualifications and learning units, as well as student exchange. While ECTS is widely used in higher education, it can also be applied to other lifelong learning activities.

ECTS credits are based on the workload required for students to achieve the expected learning outcomes. Learning outcomes define what a student will know, understand, and be able to do after the completion of a successful learning process. These outcomes are linked to the level descriptors in the National and European Qualifications Frameworks.

Workload defines the time students will spend to complete all learning activities (such as attending classes, carrying out projects, individual studies, and exams) required to achieve the expected learning outcomes.”[1]

In formal education, the defined workload and associated learning outcomes for one academic year correspond to 60 ECTS. Since 1 ECTS credit corresponds to 25 hours at Eskişehir Technical University, the student workload in one academic year is 1500 hours.

Eskişehir Technical University uses the ECTS system. The "ECTS Credit Validation Survey" prepared by experts is administered to all students for each course; the ECTS credits for each course are recalculated in line with the survey results and the recommendations of the relevant unit and the Quality Commission. The University Management envisions evaluating ECTS credits by administering the survey to all courses every 3 years. Furthermore, a course evaluation survey and a general satisfaction survey are administered to students for each course offered in the programs at Eskişehir Technical University, the results are shared with the relevant units, the unit's improvement suggestions are evaluated by the Quality Commission, and improvement efforts are put into action.
