For Turkish Students

Turkish is the main language of education in ESTU. However, the medium language of education shows differences from one department to another. 30% or %100 of courses are taught in English in some departments. For this reason, attending lessons in (preparation class) in order to gain a certain level of English is obligatory for these students. Students’ language skills and knowledge is evaluated via a final language exanimation by School of Foreign Languages. When students reach the required level of English skills and knowledge, they can start to take lessons at their departments and start their first year. This exam is taken as a prove that students have required language proficiency and qualifications and they can be part of mobility programmes by using this exam results.

For the students who are not enrolled in preparation classes selective language courses are offered in the academic programmes throughout the programme cycle.

For Foreign Students

Buddy system is amongst the measures implemented to help the incoming student communicate with the locals in different environments. Departmental ECTS/Erasmus + Coordinators, as well as the International Affairs Office staff, are always eager to give support to the incoming students.

Measures such as private Turkish lessons or courses are through the planning process in the time being. Collaboration with TÖMER (Türkçe Öğretim Merkezi), which is a language centre and founded with the purpose of teaching Turkish to foreigners, is the first priority. However, students who would like to learn Turkish and own a certificate can apply to TÖMER by meeting their own expenses. Furthermore, ESTU is actively working for the establishment of a Turkish teaching unit, which will provide free language courses for the demanding incoming students and staff, under the Rectorate.
