Recognition of Prior Learning

The recognition of prior learning is one of the fundamental characteristics of the Turkish education system. Candidates placed in higher education institutions by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) register with the diplomas they have received from secondary education institutions.

Newly registered students may be exempted from the Foreign Language Preparatory class and certain compulsory courses if they succeed in the exemption exams held at the beginning of the academic year at the University and the foreign language proficiency exams held at the Eskişehir Technical University School of Foreign Languages.

Candidates who have graduated from associate degree programs can be placed by ÖSYM into undergraduate programs that are a continuation of their fields of study via the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS). For candidates registering for undergraduate programs through vertical transfer, the grades of equivalent courses they took and passed during their associate degree education are transferred exactly to the Transcript and included in the General Grade Point Average (GPA), and the courses to be taken from the program are determined according to the credits of these courses.

Within the scope of the "Regulation on the Principles of Transfer Between Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, Minor, and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfer in Higher Education Institutions"; students are admitted via horizontal transfer with central placement exam scores in line with the principles determined by the Senate, inter-institutional horizontal transfer from other higher education institutions to equivalent programs of the University, and intra-institutional horizontal transfer to equivalent level programs of the University. Likewise, in accordance with the same principles, students can enroll in double major and minor programs if they meet the necessary conditions. If a student registered at another higher education institution wishes to continue their education at Eskişehir Technical University as a "Special Student" (or vice versa) to gain a different educational environment, culture, or achievement, or due to special circumstances such as health and similar reasons, this situation must be accepted by the relevant boards of both higher education institutions.
