Profile of the Programme

Chemical Engineering Ph.D Program pursues the goal of graduating qualified researchers in the area of Chemical Engineering. The Doctorate degree requires course work and thesis research. The students will conduct original research and prepare a thesis, then make an oral defense of their completed research. Students require about four years beyond the Master's degree to complete a Ph.D. program. This program intends to include all kinds of practical and the theoretical aspects of the field of study and it aims at enabling students with the opportunity to specialize in one of the areas in Chemical Engineering to equip students with the ability to do research in the area.

To be considered successful, a PhD student is required to get a grade of CC, YT or above and achieve a minimum GPA of 3.00. Students with a graduate degree at the end of 4th semester, students without a graduate degree at the end of 6th semester will be expelled from the institute if they do not meet these requirements. After successfully completing course requirements the latest date to take the qualifying exam, for students with a graduate degree is the end of the 5th semester; for students without a graduate degree is the end of 7th semester. A student who fails the qualifying exam takes it again in the next semester. If the student fails the second qualifying exam, he/she will be dismissed from the PhD program. A student who successfully passed the qualifying exam, at the latest within 6 months, is required to orally defend the aim, methodology and work plan of his/her dissertation proposal to the thesis committee.A student, whose dissertation proposal was rejected, has the right to choose a new supervisor and dissertation topic. At least 1 month before the meeting, the student is required to submit a report to the committee members. In this report, a summary of the studies made so far and the future study plan is described. Thesis committee determines whether the study is satisfactory (YT) or unsatisfactory (YZ). A student who gets YZ grade consecutively two or intermittent three times will be dismissed from the related institute.A student in the PhD program is required to write the research results in the accordance with the related institute’s guidelines and orally defend his/her thesis. If the thesis is not accepted at the defense, the student will be dismissed from the related institute.
