  • recognize the distinguishing polymeric properties of rubbery materials and their position in the technological classification of polymers.
  • summarize the chemical structure, molecular properties, physical/chemical properties, and areas of application of major types of rubber.
  • have an idea on the oil/fuel resistance, ozone resistance, and suitable vulcanization systems of a rubber by considering its chemical structure.
  • be familiar with the types, functions, and dispersion mechanisms of compounding materials at a basic level.
  • describe the vulcanization process, types of vulcanization, and the properties conferred by vulcanization.
  • make calculations of torque and time (scorch, cure) on a vulcanization curve.
  • explain the process of rubber compound preparation.
