  • Learning Outcomes and Subordinate Skills: After the end of this course, the student; 1. will able to define the basic concepts of underground structures and engineering for sustainable urban development. 1.1. Learn the concepts and definition of underground structures and engineering and sustainability. 1.2. Learn the concept of potential benefits and challenges associated with developing underground space besides hazard and risk concept. 2. will be able to learn the factors affecting underground development and engineering. 2.1. Engineering the underground for sustainable urban development, and policy, economic, and human behavioral drivers that influence decision making are introduced. 2.2. Discuss the results of the incomplete planning and understand the importance of making management and planning for sustainability. 2.3. Learn long-term management of the underground structures and the contributions of underground engineering to sustainable and resilient urban development. 3. will be able to define health and safety issues emerging from underground engineering. 3.1. Learn human factor effects at health and safety and managing safety by means of regulation, hazards to human health and safety. 3.2. Learn different international underground tunnel safety codes. 3.3. Learn improvement of life quality by maximizing safety. 4. will be able to learn about lifecycle sustainability, costs, and benefits of underground infrastructure development. 4.1. Learn lifecycle sustainability assessment, and economic benefits and costs. 4.2. Learn lifecycle environmental, social benefits and costs. 5. will able to learn about innovative underground technology and engineering for sustainable development. 5.1. Learn technologies for underground site characterization and also evolution of this technology. 5.2. Learn technologies for underground design and construction and technologies that promote sustainability and resilience.
