Week - 1 Introduction to transportation systems. Basic definitions. Classification of transportation systems. History of transportation systems. Current status of transportation systems in Turkey.
Week - 2 Vehicular characteristics and performance. Tractive effort and resistance. Aerodynamic resistance. Rolling resistance. Grade resistance. Vehicle acceleration.
Week - 3 Braking. Theoretical braking distance. Practical braking distance. Stopping sight distance. Passing sight distance. 
Week - 4 Design process of transportation facilities. Design codes and documents. Surveys for highway location. Geometric design of highways.
Week - 5 Horizontal alignment. Zero-line method. Elements of horizontal alignment. Circular horizontal curves. Transition curves.
Week - 6 Superelevation. Compound and reserve curves. Sight distance on horizontal curves.
Week - 7 Vertical alignment. Circular vertical curves. Stopping sight distance and vertical curve design.
Week - 8 Passing sight distance and crest vertical curves design. Underpass sight distance and sag vertical curve design. Combined curves. Circular vertical curves.
Week - 9 Earthwork. Calculation of cross sectional areas. Earthwork volumes. Mass diagrams.
Week - 10 Pavement design. Functions of the pavement structure. Rigid and flexible pavements.
Week - 11 Definitions of capacity and level of service. Capacity and level of service analysis of basic freeway sections. Capacity and level of service analysis of two-lane highway sections.
Week - 12 Classification and planning of urban roads.
Week - 13 Planning and design of intersections and interchanges.
Week - 14 Design and construction of highway drainage systems.
