Week - 1 Importance of Characterisation; Classification of Characterisation Techniques; Why Different Characterisation Techniques; Specimen Preparation;
Week - 2 Properties and production of x-rays
Week - 3 Diffraction and Bragg law
Week - 4 The use of x-rays in materials characterisation
Week - 5 The factors effecting the intensity of diffracted peaks
Week - 6 Calculation of expected theoric patterns obtained from x-ray diffraction
Week - 7 The identification of phases in x-ray diffraction patterns obtained from different materials
Week - 8 Thermal analysis techniques and properties to be measured by thermal analysis
Week - 9 Thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and the interpretation of the TG curves
Week - 10 Differantial thermal analysis (DTA), differantial scanning calorimetre (DSC) and simultaneous thermal analysis (STA)
Week - 11 Interpretation of DTA and DSC curves and dilatometry and the analysis of the curves
Week - 12 The parameters effecting the thermal analysis results and quantitative analysis
