  • About the Program

Profile of the Programme

With the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Defense Minor Program, physics, chemistry, biology, chemical engineering, biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, and immunology aimed at preventing, recognizing, defending, and reducing the effects of CBRN risks, which are increasing in global policies. It is aimed to gain knowledge by carrying out interdisciplinary studies such as international law. The courses given within the scope of this program, it is aimed to convey the components and principles of defense against possible chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear attacks. It was aimed to train students to research CBRN prevention, diagnosis, defense, and treatment processes, to integrate emerging technologies and thus to contribute to national and international technology and literature, as well as individuals who receive solution-oriented productivity education in the industry/university/defense sector for the needs of national and international society.

General admission requirements stated under Info on the Institution on this website are being applied to start this programme.
Students studying in the departments of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering with a grade point average of at least 2.5/4 can apply to this minor program at the earliest in the fifth semester of their education.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Depending on the degrees awarded, theoretical or practical courses taken as part of a degree (completed or not completed) may lead to recognition of these as prior learning by the programme administration. The students who have taken courses in another institution in Turkey or abroad can ask for credit and grade transfer. The executive boards of relevant programme will decide on the courses to be transferred covering students' entire academic program once and for all with the condition that the request for transfer be made within the first week of the academic year, the requests cannot be repeated.
If students, who are registered to another Higher Education University in Turkey or abroad, apply within the first week, their credit and grade transfer requests are evaluated by the board of directors of the relevant education unit, and a decision is made for once, covering the entire education.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

A student is required to successfully complete the designated program of courses meet a minimum of 240 ECTS credit requirement and have a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00 and no FF, DZ or YZ grades.
The student must have passed all the courses in the program and must not have an FF, DZ or YZ grade. In this program, the student must provide a minimum of 30 ECTS credits and a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.

Access to Further Studies

May apply to master's or doctorate programmes in any field or proficiency in fine arts programmes
Can apply to master's, doctoral programs, or proficiency in arts programs in any field.

Graduation Requirements

A student is required to successfully complete the designated program of courses meet a minimum of 240 ECTS credit requirement and have a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00 and no FF, DZ or YZ grades.
In order to graduate from the Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Defense Minor program, courses containing at least 30 ECTS credits must be taken and successfully completed.Every student enrolled in a minor program is required to take 6 compulsory courses (21 ECTS in total), and complete the remaining 9 ECTS credits with elective courses (at least 3 courses).

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Candidates who graduate from this minor program will be able to work in private and government institutions that use and produce CBRN technologies, as they receive an interdisciplinary education based on physics, chemistry, biology, chemical engineering, biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular biology, genetics, microbiology and immunology, international law. In addition, they will be able to work on CBRN in the relevant university departments and be a researcher.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

A variety of assessment methods such as mid-term(s), assignment(s), exercise(s), project(s), practice(s), and a final exam are implemented in the programme. Assessment methods may include classical test(s), multiple-choice test(s), homework(s), performance evaluation(s), and product evaluation(s). In order to graduate from the programme, cumulative GPA must be minimum 2.00. A course grade is constituted by evaluating the above stated elements and given by using letters. Letter grades and their associated coefficients are as follows;
The contribution of mid-term evaluations to the success grade, excluding distance education non-thesis master's programs; It cannot be less than 30% or more than 70%. In the applied courses where only the final exam is given, the contribution of the final exam to the success grade is 100%.The course success of the student is determined by the letter grade by the instructor, taking into account the general success level of all students taking that course.In addition to these letter grades, the following letter grade evaluations can be made:a. DZ (Discontinued) letter grade; It is given to students who cannot meet the attendance requirement. This student cannot take the final exam. DZ letter grade; Equivalent to letter grade FF or YZ.b. EK (Missing) letter grade; It is given to a student who cannot fulfill the course requirements on time due to a just and valid reason determined by the Senate. The ADDITIONAL letter grade is shown in the Grade Status Document until a new grade is specified in its place. The student who receives this grade has to complete his/her deficiencies before the next semester starts. The ADDITIONAL letter grade of the student who completes his/her deficiencies within the given time is converted into a new letter grade according to the letter grade ranges of that course with the decision of the Graduate School Administrative Board. In the event that the student does not complete the deficiencies, the EK letter grade is converted to FF or YZ letter grade with the decision of the Graduate School Administrative Board. ADDITIONAL letter grade is not used for thesis and specialization courses.NS. KL (Removed) letter grade; Awarded for courses removed from the program.D. YT (Adequate) and YZ (Insufficient) letter grades; It is used to show success in courses that are not deemed appropriate to be included in the grade point average with the decision of the Graduate School Administrative Board and the approval of the Senate. The successful student is given a letter grade of YT, and the unsuccessful student is given a letter grade of YZ.Student; Subject to the approval of his/her advisor, he/she can change course, drop a course or register for a new course/courses within the add/drop week of the relevant semester.
