Profile of the Programme

Chemistry is an interdisciplinary field of different applications such as chemical science, biology, physics and pharmacy, which are in contact with different disciplines and in the technological process such as polymeric materials, catalysis, organic and inorganic synthesis. There are five departments: Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry and Physicochemistry, and the courses taught were developed at an advanced level, covering the basic chemistry knowledge and considering the aforementioned five departments. The department was established in 1993 and is located at Yunus Emre Campus. It was affiliated with Eskişehir Technical University, which was established with the Law No. 7141 published in the Official Gazette dated May 18, 2018 and numbered 30425. Education activities started in the Spring Semester. in the Department of Chemistry, 12 Professors, 10  Associate Professors, 4 Dr. Lecturer, 5 research assistants and 2 technicians are on duty. There are 1 Professors, 1 Associate Professor, 1 Research Assistant in the Department of Biochemistry. Research Laboratories are equipped with devices that can conduct scientific research in projects such as TUBITAK and Scientific Research Projects.  Those who graduate from this department can be a researcher in their fields, and they can provide useful and productive services in research / development laboratories of various institutions and organizations, modern analysis and quality control laboratories, and educational institutions if they acquire the necessary training formation. Decisions related to the department are taken by the department staff or by a board consisting only of the department heads. The department is run by one president and two vice-presidents. One of the vice-chairs assists the president in technical work in the department and the other in academic affairs.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Depending on the degrees awarded, theoretical or practical courses taken as part of a degree (completed or not completed) may lead to recognition of these as prior learning by the programme administration. The students who have taken courses in another institution in Turkey or abroad can ask for credit and grade transfer. The executive boards of relevant programme will decide on the courses to be transferred covering students' entire academic program once and for all with the condition that the request for transfer be made within the first week of the academic year, the requests cannot be repeated.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

A student with an MA/MS degree is required to successfully complete a minimum of 7 courses, not less than 52,5 ECTS credits on the other hand student without an MA/MS degree enrolling in the doctorate programs is required to successfully complete a minimum of 14 courses not less than 105 ECTS credits. Both groups of students are required take the required Field Specialization course, pass the qualifying exam, have an accepted dissertation proposal and successfully compete doctorate dissertation work with a minimum of 60 ECTS credits, have a minimum GPA of 3.00/4.00 and no letter grades lower than CC and no YT, DZ grades.
