Profile of the Programme

Department of Computer Engineering has been offering a Doctorate program since 2008-2009 Spring semester. The aim of the program is to provide qualified R&D personnel, managers, and academicians required in the field of Computer Engineering, which is why the content of the program is designed accordingly. Students fulfilling the graduation requirements are granted a doctorate degree in Computer Engineering.

General admission requirements stated under Info on the Institution on this website are being applied to start this programme.
Candidate student is required to have Bachelor degree or MS degree with thesis, at least 3.00/4.00 (75/100) (students applying with Bachelor degree) or a GPA (students applying with MS degree with thesis degree) and take necessary points on ALES and foreign language exam. Students applying with Bachelor degree is required to have at least 80 points in the score type of the program applied on the ALES or have the equivalent points accepted by the Senate on GRE/GMAT. Students applying with MS degree with thesis is required to have at least 70 points in the score type of the program applied on the ALES or have the equivalent points accepted by the Senate on GRE/GMAT. Student is required to have at least 55 points on the foreign language exams organized by ÖSYM or YÖKDİL exam or have the equivalent points from international foreign language exams accepted by the ÖSYM. Recognition of Prior Learning

Depending on the degrees awarded, theoretical or practical courses taken as part of a degree (completed or not completed) may lead to recognition of these as prior learning by the programme administration. The students who have taken courses in another institution in Turkey or abroad can ask for credit and grade transfer. The executive boards of relevant programme will decide on the courses to be transferred covering students' entire academic program once and for all with the condition that the request for transfer be made within the first week of the academic year, the requests cannot be repeated.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

A student with an MA/MS degree is required to successfully complete a minimum of 7 courses, not less than 52,5 ECTS credits on the other hand student without an MA/MS degree enrolling in the doctorate programs is required to successfully complete a minimum of 14 courses not less than 105 ECTS credits. Both groups of students are required take the required Field Specialization course, pass the qualifying exam, have an accepted dissertation proposal and successfully compete doctorate dissertation work with a minimum of 60 ECTS credits, have a minimum GPA of 3.00/4.00 and no letter grades lower than CC and no YT, DZ grades.
A student with an MS degree with thesis is required to successfully complete a minimum of 7 courses and seminar courses, not less than 60 ECTS credits, qualifying exam and Field Specialization course and dissertation work with dissertation proposal, not less than 180 ECTS, and defends the doctorate dissertation. Student without an MS degree enrolling in the doctorate program is required to successfully complete a minimum of 14 courses and seminar course, not less than 120 ECTS, qualifying exam and Field Specialization course and dissertation work with dissertation proposal, not less than 180 ECTS, and defends the doctorate dissertation.Students enrolling in the doctorate program should have at least YT, CC, or higher grades and have a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.00. In addition, student is required to successfully complete at least one course including topics about Research and Publication Ethics with Scientific Research Techniques during graduate education. The program for student with an MS degree enrolling takes 8 semesters and maximum completion period is 12 semesters. The program for student without an MS degree enrolling takes 10 semesters and maximum completion period is 14 semesters.
