Profile of the Programme

The Department of Civil Engineering was established in 1998. The department located in Iki Eylul Campus occupies a 5000 m2 of closed area. 6 Professors, 5 Associate Professors, 7 Assistant Professors and 10 Research Assistants are currently working in the department. The decisions related with the department are made by the department council which is composed of all faculty members of the department. The department is governed by one chairman and two deputy chairmen. One of the deputy chairmen takes care of technical activities of the department while the other deputy chairman assists chairman in academic activities in the department

Adayın tezli yüksek lisans programına başvurabilmesi için; lisans diplomasına, en az 2,00/4,00(50/100) lisans GNO’suna ve Akademik Personel ve Lisansüstü Eğitimi Giriş Sınavı(ALES)’ndan, başvurduğu puan türünde en az 55 puana veya Graduate Record Examinations(GRE) sınavından veya Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) sınavından Senatotarafından kabul edilen eşdeğer puana sahip olması ve ilgili enstitü yönetim kurulununbelirleyeceği özel koşulları sağlaması gerekir.Öğrenci başvuru ve kabulüne ilişkin tüm esaslar için ESKİŞEHİR TEKNİK ÜNİVERSİTESİLİSANSÜSTÜ EĞİTİM-ÖĞRETİM VE SINAV YÖNETMELİĞİ’ni inceleyiniz.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Depending on the degrees awarded, theoretical or practical courses taken as part of a degree (completed or not completed) may lead to recognition of these as prior learning by the programme administration. The students who have taken courses in another institution in Turkey or abroad can ask for credit and grade transfer. The executive boards of relevant programme will decide on the courses to be transferred covering students' entire academic program once and for all with the condition that the request for transfer be made within the first week of the academic year, the requests cannot be repeated.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The student with a master's degree with thesis must have at least 7 courses and seminar courses, not less than 60 ECTS credits, proficiency exam and thesis proposal, and the Specialization Field Course and Thesis study, provided that it is not less than 180 ECTS credits. A student who has been accepted with a bachelor's degree must have at least 14 courses and seminar courses, not less than 120 ECTS credits, qualification exam and thesis proposal, and the Specialization Field Course and Thesis study, not less than 180 ECTS credits. A student enrolled in a doctoral program must have a grade of at least YT, CC or above from all courses taken, and a GPA of at least 3.00 out of 4.00. In addition, it is compulsory to take at least one course that includes Scientific Research Techniques and Research and Publication Ethics during graduate education. The duration of the program is 8 semesters for students who have a master's degree with thesis, and the maximum completion period is 12 semesters. For students admitted with a bachelor's degree, the program duration is 10 semesters and the maximum completion period is 14 semesters. During this period, the student who meets the above conditions and prepares and successfully defends his doctoral thesis graduates from the program. Öğrencinin, toplam 60 AKTS kredisinden az olmamak koşuluyla, en az 7 ders ve seminer dersiile 60 AKTS kredisinden az olmamak koşulu ile Uzmanlık Alan Dersi ve Tez çalışmasınıbaşarmış olması, aldığı tüm derslerden en az YT, CC ya da bunun üzerinde not alması ve genelnot ortalamasının 4,00 üzerinden en az 2,50 olması gerekmektedir. Ayrıca, Bilimsel AraştırmaTeknikleri ile Araştırma ve Yayın Etiği konularını içeren en az bir dersin lisansüstü eğitimsırasında alınması zorunludur. May apply to doctorate programmes in any field or proficiency in fine arts programmes.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Students who graduated from Civil Engineering Program have awiderange ofwork fields. Graduates can work aslecturers in the universities. Moreover they can work both in public organizations such as General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works, General Directorate of Highways, Turkish State Railways, Ministry of Public Works and Settlement, Municipalities andprivate organizations that provide services in contracting and project consulting.Somecivilengineerscan set uptheir own businesses about design, contracting and consultancy.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

A variety of assessment methods such as mid-term(s), assignment(s), exercise(s), project(s), practice(s), and a final exam are implemented in the programme. Assessment methods may include classical test(s), multiple-choice test(s), homework(s), performance evaluation(s), and product evaluation(s). In order to graduate from the programme, cumulative GPA must be minimum 2.00. A course grade is constituted by evaluating the above stated elements and given by using letters. Letter grades and their associated coefficients are as follows;
Examinations, assessment and grading are held according to the regulations arranged by the University Senate. There are at least one midterm and one final examination for each course. The examinations are written examinations however if necessary they can also be performed orally or by practice work. The evaluation of the weights of the courses is determined by the lecturer at the beginning of the semester. The weight of the final examination can not be less than 30%. The final evaluation is performed by the lecturer. According to grading, it is accepted that the highest score AA is equivalent to 4.00; AB to 3.70, BA to 3.3, BB to 3.0, BC to 2.70, CB to 2.3, CC to 2.0, CD to 1.70, DC to 1.30, DD to 1.00 and FF as 0.0. Scores between AA andCC are passing scores.The grades YT (sufficient)and YZ (insufficient) are givenfor the courses such as seminar, Research in Area of Specialization, project and thesis that are not included in the average grade and indicate whether the student is successful from the courseor not.Students have to write and present orally a thesis.Thecommittee evaluates the thesis after the thesis defense and either accepts, rejects or decides to give a revision.
