Profile of the Programme

The civil aviation sector is a strategic field that is continuously transforming in line with technological developments, digitalization, sustainability requirements, safety and security standards, and changing passenger and cargo transportation dynamics. This transformation increases the need for qualified specialists who can evaluate not only operational issues, but also engineering perspectives, mathematical analysis methods, and managerial decision-making processes in an integrated manner.

The Civil Aviation Master’s Program with Thesis aims to improve the theoretical, practical, and analytical knowledge of individuals from different disciplines or those already working in the aviation sector. Within the scope of the program, students are expected to acquire advanced knowledge in air transportation, airport and airline management, aviation safety, security, regulations, sustainability, operations management, UAV systems, and current aviation technologies.

The program also covers engineering-based problem solving, mathematical modeling, optimization, decision-making methods, data analysis, risk assessment, and performance management, thereby supporting students in analyzing aviation systems from a multidimensional perspective. In this regard, students gain the ability to evaluate sectoral problems not only from a managerial perspective, but also in terms of technical, economic, operational, technological, and sustainability dimensions.

Through its thesis-based structure, the program provides graduates with the ability to conduct scientific research, produce academic knowledge, analyze complex aviation problems, and develop solution proposals based on scientific methods. In this respect, the program aims to contribute to graduates’ academic careers and to support them in assuming more effective roles in areas requiring expertise, analysis, planning, auditing, operations management, and strategic decision-making processes within the civil aviation sector.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Depending on the degrees awarded, theoretical or practical courses taken as part of a degree (completed or not completed) may lead to recognition of these as prior learning by the programme administration. The students who have taken courses in another institution in Turkey or abroad can ask for credit and grade transfer. The executive boards of relevant programme will decide on the courses to be transferred covering students' entire academic program once and for all with the condition that the request for transfer be made within the first week of the academic year, the requests cannot be repeated.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The student with a master's degree with thesis must have at least 7 courses and seminar courses, not less than 60 ECTS credits, proficiency exam and thesis proposal, and the Specialization Field Course and Thesis study, provided that it is not less than 180 ECTS credits. A student who has been accepted with a bachelor's degree must have at least 14 courses and seminar courses, not less than 120 ECTS credits, qualification exam and thesis proposal, and the Specialization Field Course and Thesis study, not less than 180 ECTS credits. A student enrolled in a doctoral program must have a grade of at least YT, CC or above from all courses taken, and a GPA of at least 3.00 out of 4.00. In addition, it is compulsory to take at least one course that includes Scientific Research Techniques and Research and Publication Ethics during graduate education. The duration of the program is 8 semesters for students who have a master's degree with thesis, and the maximum completion period is 12 semesters. For students admitted with a bachelor's degree, the program duration is 10 semesters and the maximum completion period is 14 semesters. During this period, the student who meets the above conditions and prepares and successfully defends his doctoral thesis graduates from the program. Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduates may be employed in airlines, airport operators, ground handling companies, maintenance and repair organizations, civil aviation authorities, consulting companies, aviation technology companies, universities, and research centers. They may also undertake specialist roles in aviation safety, quality management, operations planning, sustainability, risk management, regulatory compliance, data analysis, and decision-support processes.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

A variety of assessment methods such as mid-term(s), assignment(s), exercise(s), project(s), practice(s), and a final exam are implemented in the programme. Assessment methods may include classical test(s), multiple-choice test(s), homework(s), performance evaluation(s), and product evaluation(s). In order to graduate from the programme, cumulative GPA must be minimum 2.00. A course grade is constituted by evaluating the above stated elements and given by using letters.
