  • Plans the original research process for the designated Ph.D. thesis topic in the field of civil engineering.
  • Conducts a comprehensive and critical review of the national and international literature relevant to the PhD thesis topic.
  • By reviewing current developments in the literature, research gaps and scientific debates, the student defines an original research problem.
  • The aim, scope, hypothesis and research methodology of the thesis are formulated on a scientific basis.
  • Determines the advanced data, methods, and research tools required for the Ph.D.l thesis study.
  • Compiles advanced data, standards, methods and technical information relating to one of the following fields: construction, construction management, building materials, transport, mechanics, geotechnics or hydraulics.
  • Determines the theoretical approach, experimental method, numerical model, analytical tool, fieldwork or research design to be used in the thesis.
  • Undertakes the necessary scientific and technical preparations for a PhD thesis based on theoretical, quantitative, experimental and/or fieldwork.
  • Conducts and completes the Ph.D. thesis study under the supervision of the advisor, taking independent research responsibility
  • In experimental studies, they design, set up and carry out experiments; they collect, analyse and scientifically interpret experimental data.
  • Produces original solutions and assessments by applying advanced engineering approaches in theoretical, numerical and/or modelling studies.
  • Evaluates and interprets the obtained findings using advanced analysis methods
  • Discusses the research findings within the framework of the principles of civil engineering and the current body of knowledge in the relevant field.
  • Highlights the original contribution of the findings to the literature, professional practice and societal benefit.
  • Reports the Ph.D. thesis study in accordance with academic writing guidelines
  • The candidate prepares the thesis in accordance with academic writing conventions, principles of scientific ethics and the institute’s guidelines for doctoral theses.
  • Presents research findings in a manner suitable for publication in national and/or international scientific journals.
  • Scientifically presents, discusses, and defends the Ph.D. thesis study before a jury
  • Responds to the jury members’ questions and assessments by drawing on advanced scientific knowledge and research findings.
  • Explains the thesis’s original scientific, technical, professional and social contributions to the field of civil engineering.
