The studenst acquire general knowledge of materials science and the ability to classify engineering materials.
The students acquire an understanding of atomic structure, interatomic bonds, and crystal structures; explains how these factors influence material properties.
The student will develop an understanding of diffusion in solids, describe diverse diffusion mechanisms, and distinguish between steady-state and non-steady-state diffusion while articulating the parameters that influence the diffusion process.
The students acquire an understanding of the mechanical properties of metals; explain the role of dislocations during deformation and identify various strengthening mechanisms.
The student will develop a comprehensive understanding of material failure, distinguishing between fracture types and articulating the concepts of fracture toughness, fatigue, and creep-induced damage.
The students acquire general knowledge of phase diagrams. The students explain phase transformations, microstructure formations, and changes in mechanical properties in materials.
The students will acquire knowledge about alloys and alloy processing techniques.
