Weeks Topics
Week - 1 Air Conditioning System Introduction: Human needs in flight; Purpose of an air conditioning system; Cabin environmental control systems (pressure, temperature and humidity control, ventilation); Physics of cabin atmosphere control.
Week - 2 Temperature Control Overview: Components that constitute air cycle and vapor cycle machines; Basic principle of air cycle machine and vapor cycle machines.
Week - 3 Cooling Description: Cooling packs and its components: pack valve, ozone converter, heat exchanger, air cycle machine, by-pass valve, ram air system, sensors, water separator, anti-ice valve.
Week - 4 Water Separation: High pressure water separator, low pressure water separator. Pack Control: Pack controllers, pack sensors, pack temperature control.
Week - 5 Distribution: Mixing unit, recirculation system, cockpit air supply and distribution, ram air and ground supply, air ducts. Zone Temperature Control: Trim air system, manual and automatic modes, protection circuits, control and indications.
Week - 6 Distribution: Mixing unit, recirculation system, cockpit air supply and distribution, ram air and ground supply, air ducts. Zone Temperature Control: Trim air system, manual and automatic modes, protection circuits, control and indications.
Week - 7 Equipment Cooling: System description, air sources for equipment cooling. Cabin Pressurization: Fundamentals of the pressurization system; Pressurization system components: outflow valve, pressure controller, excessive differential pressure relief valve, negative differential pressure relief valve; Definition of cabin altitude, cabin vertical speed, differential pressure, pre-pressurization terms.
Week - 8 Pneumatic System Introduction: System lay-out; Purpose of the pneumatic system; Power sources for pneumatic systems and main components. Pneumatic System Sources and Components: Engine/APU systems, compressors, reservoirs, ground supply; Pneumatic sources on ground and in flight; Engine bleed air supply system; Compressor stage selection; APU bleed air system; Definitions of pneumatic ducts; Ground pneumatic connection. Pneumatic System Components: Bleed valve, cross bleed valve, LP check valve, high pressure control valve, pressure regulating valve, APU bleed valve, overpressure valve, pre-cooler, leak sensing element.
Week - 9 Temperature Control: Pre-cooler and fan air valve, over-temperature sensors. Leak Detection System: Overheat detection sensors, pneumatic leak warning systems. Pneumatic System Control and Indications: Pneumatic controllers; Pneumatic system panels and indication units; Indications and warnings related to the pneumatic system.
Week - 10 Oxygen System Introduction: Requirements for aeroplane oxygen equipments; Purpose of oxygen system, Oxygen System Lay-out: Cockpit, cabin oxygen system configurations; Oxygen system types (crew, passenger and portable); Oxygen sources, storage, charging and distribution.
Week - 11 Supply Regulation: Principle of crew and passenger oxygen systems; Operation of crew oxygen masks. Indications and Warnings: Controls of the oxygen systems; Fire and explosion danger of oxygen; Oxygen system safety precautions.
Week - 12 Supply Regulation: Principle of crew and passenger oxygen systems; Operation of crew oxygen masks. Indications and Warnings: Controls of the oxygen systems; Fire and explosion danger of oxygen; Oxygen system safety precautions.
Week - 13 Water System Lay-out and Storage: Potable water system; Water system components; Water storage and pressurization. Water System Supply, Distribution, Servicing and Draining: Distribution, draining, flushing and filling, hygiene of the system, servicing methods for potable water systems.
Week - 14 Toilet System Lay-out: Toilet system and types: Classical and vacuum type toilets; Toilet system components. Toilet System Flushing and Servicing: Draining and flushing the toilets; Cleaning the lines; Monitoring system and servicing methods for toilet systems; Water leakages.
