Profile of the Programme

Mathematics Department was started in the Faculty of Science in 1993. In Mathematics Department,research is carried out in the fields of analysis, algebra, geometry, topology, applied mathematics and mathematics education, which are all the basic fields of mathematics. Students of this program have the opportunity to take elective courses such as business, economics, and some other social courses which are taught at different faculties of the university, which help them develop general knowledge in addition to their knowledge in the field. Students of the program have the opportunity to get a double degree or minor degree as well. In Mathematics Department, there are currently 17 Professors, 5 Associate Professors, 4 Assistant Professors, 1 Lecturer and 5 Research Assisstants Doctor and 4 Research Assistants. This program intends to include all kinds of practical and theoretical aspects of the field of study and it aims to enable students to appreciate that mathematics is the synthesis of sharp logic and consistent reasoning with strong intuition and creativity to equip students with the skills of contemplation, questioning and synthesis.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Depending on the degrees awarded, theoretical or practical courses taken as part of a degree (completed or not completed) may lead to recognition of these as prior learning by the programme administration. The students who have taken courses in another institution in Turkey or abroad can ask for credit and grade transfer. The executive boards of relevant programme will decide on the courses to be transferred covering students' entire academic program once and for all with the condition that the request for transfer be made within the first week of the academic year, the requests cannot be repeated.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Our graduates who have pedagogical formation training certificate can work as a mathematics teacher at highschools. In addition, our graduates can work as a computer scientist, researcher or a strategic planner in public or private sector. Our succesfull graduates can work as a research assistant at Turkish universities or they can pursue an academic career abroad.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

A variety of assessment methods such as mid-term(s), assignment(s), exercise(s), project(s), practice(s), and a final exam are implemented in the programme. Assessment methods may include classical test(s), multiple-choice test(s), homework(s), performance evaluation(s), and product evaluation(s). In order to graduate from the programme, cumulative GPA must be minimum 2.00. A course grade is constituted by evaluating the above stated elements and given by using letters. Letter grades and their associated coefficients are as follows;
Generally, it has been done two midterms and a final exam for every course. In the courseMAT401 Mathematics Project,the student prepares a report and defends this thesis in the comission consisting of three lecturer and students.
