Profile of the Programme

The Master's Program in Industrial Design with Thesis, conducted within the Department of Industrial Arts, aims to provide students with advanced knowledge, research, and application skills in product, system, service, and experience design. In a globalized world, increasing competition highlights not only the functional features of products but also their aesthetic, cultural, and user-experience-based values. In this context, the program focuses on current research and application areas such as design research, user-centered design, design processes, design education and creativity, sustainability, digital technologies, innovation, user experience, service, and system design. Established in 2000, the Department of Industrial Design offers an educational and research environment that centers on the research, creativity, critical thinking, and aesthetic evaluation skills required by contemporary design principles. Students gain the competence to analyze complex design problems, develop original solutions, and translate research findings into design processes, in line with design theories and research methods. The program is supported by design studios, computer laboratories, FABLab and other digital production environments, as well as traditional production workshops, ensuring a strong link between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Furthermore, students' active participation in national and international research and development activities is encouraged through Erasmus+ projects, Eskişehir Technical University Scientific Research Projects (BAP), TÜBİTAK-supported research, and university-industry collaborations. The program aims to train experts who can think critically, conduct scientific research, and evaluate the social, cultural, economic, and environmental impacts of design. Graduates can continue their academic careers, transfer to doctoral programs, or work as design researchers, design strategists, innovation specialists, design managers, and consultants in the public and private sectors. The program aims to train researchers and experts who are sensitive to local and global issues, generate knowledge, and contribute to the development of the design field.
