  • Explain the structure of industrial automation systems, fundamental controller types, and concepts of process control.
  • Analyze and design basic control circuits using relays and contactors.
  • Explain the hardware architecture and scan cycle of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and configure a PLC system within a development environment.
  • Developing and testing PLC programs compliant with IEC 61131-3, using logic, timers, counters, comparisons, and mathematical operations.
  • Selecting appropriate sensors, transducers, and actuators to meet the requirements of an automation or robotics application.
  • Transferring analog measurement signals to a PLC via signal-conditioning circuits and data acquisition systems, scaling these signals, and interpreting the resulting data.
  • Designing, implementing, documenting, and presenting a PLC-based control system for an automation problem—within a team, under realistic constraints, and in adherence to safety requirements.
