Week - 1 Definition of heat treatment, technological importance of heat treatments and their applications in industry.
Week - 2 Classification of heat treatments, definition of heat treatment methods used in applications and their purposes.
Week - 3 Softening annealing, Normalization (normalizing annealing) application principles and purposes.
Week - 4 Application principles and purposes of stress relieving annealing, spheroidizing annealing and recrystallization annealing.
Week - 5 Time Temperature Conversion Diagrams.
Week - 6 Quenching of iron alloys, martensitic transformation, definition of the hardenability concept, technological importance and effects of alloying elements.
Week - 7 Heating and cooling media used in heat treatment, heat treatment technologies of steels.
Week - 8 Midterm Exam Week
Week - 9 Principles and purposes of tempering application.
Week - 10 Intermittent quenching methods, martempering, austempering, application principles and purposes.
Week - 11 Types of tool steels and expectations, heat treatment of tool steels.
Week - 12 Surface treatments applied to steels, Carburizing, Nitriding, Boriding, nickel, chrome plating etc. Flame hardening and Induction hardening etc.
Week - 13 Hardenability, determination of hardenability and Jominy test.
Week - 14 Errors encountered in heat treatments and precautions to be taken.
