Weeks Topics
Week - 1 EN: The identification of the course, explanation of content and quality Introduction to the conservation terminology: basic terms and concepts, Cultural properties, those must be conserved: Cultural heritage, cultural property, architectural heritage etc.
Week - 2 What and why should we conserve? Values and parameters in conservation of cultural heritage, discussing the conservation by justifying it on cultural assets that need to be conserved.
Week - 3 Formation and developing the conservation thinking and philosophy; Conservation understanding and approaches of 19th and 20th century, discussing the contemporary conservation theories with international documents: regulations, charters, agreements.
Week - 4 EN: Turkey and legal administrative frame in conservation of cultural heritage, Development of conservation idea in Turkey, Regulations about the conservation of cultural heritage in Turkey in 19th and 20th century.
Week - 5 Intervention types in restoration of cultural heritage: Strengthening, consolidation, reintegration, renovation, rehabilitation, reconstruction, anastylosis, relocation technic and applications.
Week - 6 Documentation, project planning and applications in conservation of cultural heritage.
Week - 7 Contemporary approaches in conservation of cultural heritage: Modern heritage - Conservation of modern heritage, relationship and contradiction of modern architecture and conservation, industrial heritage and conservation.
Week - 8 Contemporary approaches in conservation: Tourism and conservation of cultural heritage, museumification concept in conservation of cultural heritage.
Week - 9 Contemporary approaches in conservation: Spirit of place (Genius locci), significance of place concepts and conservation.
Week - 10 Contemporary approaches in conservation: Intangible cultural heritage, integrated conservation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
Week - 11 Contemporary conservation approaches: Cultural landscape and urban historical landscape concepts and conservation approaches.
Week - 12 Contemporary approaches in conservation: Site management concept, World Heritage and UNESCO.
Week - 13 Presentation of group student studies defined within the context of selected concepts/theme.
Week - 14 Presentation of group student studies defined within the context of selected concepts/theme, general evaluation.
