Weeks Topics
Week - 1 EN: Radio’s Characteristic Features and Functions Practice: Comparison of the characteristic features of mass communication tools and discussion of the advantages/contributions that radio provides to the listener.
Week - 2 Fundamental Elements for Radio and Podcast: The Functions of Voice, Music, and Effects in Communication; Usage Purposes in the Context of Radio (live, flow-dependent) and Podcast (recorded, time-independent, listener-controlled). Practice: Students listen to selected podcast episodes and analyze the use of voice, music, and effects. Groups discuss the functions of these elements and clarify the differences between the broadcasting contexts of radio and podcast.
Week - 3 The Concept of Podcast and Its Place in the New Media Ecosystem: Definition of Podcast, Its Position in the New Media Environment, and Its Relationship with Radio. Practice: Students examine selected podcast examples, discuss their content structure and functions within the new media context, and share their findings in class.
Week - 4 Podcast Types and Formats: Different podcast types (e.g., news, interview, storytelling) and the characteristics of their formats within the context of new media. Practice: Groups examine selected podcast examples, discuss the differences in types and formats, and create their own mini format drafts.
Week - 5 Content Types and Thematic Approaches in Podcast and Radio: Different content types (news, culture, education, storytelling, etc.) and the role of thematic focuses in engaging with the audience. Practice: Students individually prepare a short content draft suitable for the podcast type and theme they have chosen, and share it in class.
Week - 6 Language and Style in Podcast Script Writing: The function of language, narrative style, and tone in podcast scripts. Practice: Individual short script writing, oral reading, and peer feedback.
Week - 7 Creative Narrative Techniques: Storytelling, the Use of Metaphors, Creativity in Expression, and Ways of Building a Connection with the Audience. Practice: Students individually carry out a short storytelling exercise, share their texts in class, and receive peer feedback.
Week - 8 Developing Podcast Structure and Episode Design: The introduction–development–conclusion structure in podcast episodes, flow planning, and listener experience. Practice: Students individually prepare their own podcast episode drafts and present them in class.
Week - 9 Target Audience Identification and Content Planning: Defining the target audience for a podcast, developing personas, and methods of content planning. Practice: Students individually conduct a target audience analysis, create a persona, and share their short content plans in class.
Week - 10 Interaction and Listener Experience in Podcasting: Building connections with the audience, methods of interaction, feedback, and community building. Practice: Students review their own content plans in terms of listener experience and add interaction strategies.
Week - 11 AI-Supported Podcast Production: The areas of use of AI platforms in podcast production (voice, music, text). Practice: In this week, students form their groups, try out their initial ideas on the chosen topic with the support of AI, and share them in class.
Week - 12 Group Podcast Content Development: Developing podcast content suitable for the topics chosen by the groups; integrating script, flow, and narration. Use of AI platforms in content production (idea generation, script drafting, title/summary suggestions, voice/music support). Practice: Groups create their content drafts, enhance their scripts with AI support, and share them in class.
Week - 13 Group Podcast Rehearsal Presentations: Groups rehearse their prepared podcast content in class; reviewing flow, narration, and adjustments made with AI support. Practice: Groups rehearse their podcast episodes in class, receive peer feedback, and make necessary revisions.
Week - 14 Final – Group Podcast Presentations and Peer Review: Groups present their final podcasts; in-class listening, evaluation, and sharing of peer opinions. Practice: Group podcast presentations are carried out; other students act as listeners, provide evaluations, and give peer feedback.
