Profile of the Programme

Department of Biology; It consists of six divisions: General Biology, Zoology, Botany, Molecular Biology, Ecology, and Basic and Industrial Microbiology. Biology Department undergraduate program; It offers qualified training to provide its graduates with theoretical-technical professional knowledge and experience in many sub-branches that examine the molecules, living cells, organisms, and systems that makeup live. Students plan their careers from the beginning of their undergraduate education by choosing courses in line with their future goals under the supervision of the department faculty members. The wide range of "Vocational Elective Courses" offered by the department are designed to contribute to the special personal abilities called "Soft-Skills" as well as increasing the professional acquisition of the students in the sub-branches they target. The laboratories of the Department of Biology, equipped with high-tech devices, allow students to absorb the information they have learned in the lessons by applying hypotheses, experiments, and observations and gain research experience under the supervision of expert faculty members in the subfields they want to specialize. Projects supported by Eskişehir Technical University, TÜBİTAK, DPT, and other institutions and organizations led by the faculty members of the department are carried out with the participation of students, and cooperation with universities, research laboratories, and centers at the national and international level continue. In the Biology Department Undergraduate Program, sectoral needs are constantly followed and graduates are trained to have the equipment in line with these needs.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Depending on the degrees awarded, theoretical or practical courses taken as part of a degree (completed or not completed) may lead to recognition of these as prior learning by the programme administration. The students who have taken courses in another institution in Turkey or abroad can ask for credit and grade transfer. The executive boards of relevant programme will decide on the courses to be transferred covering students' entire academic program once and for all with the condition that the request for transfer be made within the first week of the academic year, the requests cannot be repeated.

Access to Further Studies

May apply to master's or doctorate programmes in any field or proficiency in fine arts programmes

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduates of Biology Undergraduate Program; They are employed as researcher/expert staff in domestic and foreign institutes and R&D centers that conduct basic and/or applied research in the fields of biology, biotechnology, chemistry, medicine, veterinary medicine, food, agriculture. He is employed in the academic staff of universities, in laboratories affiliated to health institutions, and in biologists and technicians in institutions affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Environment, in the research-development and sales areas of food and pharmaceutical industries. They can work in the relevant sub-units of municipalities (Park-garden directorates, zoos, animal shelters, water treatment, food hygiene control, etc.). Graduates with the necessary certification can work as a biology teacher in private or public schools.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

A variety of assessment methods such as mid-term(s), assignment(s), exercise(s), project(s), practice(s), and a final exam are implemented in the programme. Assessment methods may include classical test(s), multiple-choice test(s), homework(s), performance evaluation(s), and product evaluation(s). In order to graduate from the programme, cumulative GPA must be minimum 2.00. A course grade is constituted by evaluating the above stated elements and given by using letters. Letter grades and their associated coefficients are as follows;
Examination regulations are one or two midterm exams, one final exam for the lecture courses. Generally,one midterm exam, a laboratory practice (or practice) grade system and one final exam are applied for thepractice courses.
