Profile of the Programme

The recreation department is an interdisciplinary section where individuals who manage the leisure time they participate voluntarily for their needs related to socialization, sports, contributing to health, making art, culturing and educating in the remaining free times after completing their compulsory needs. The mission of the recreation department is raising recreation experts who can design, implement, manage and improve entertainment-based activities, hardware and information systems creatively, with the necessary technical knowledge with ethical and social awareness and teamwork and leadership skills.
The Department of Recreation started education in the 2001-2002 academic year. Our program has a special meaning which is the first recreation program Turkey. Our recreation department is the only recreation department, which is established in accordance with the university needs and the curriculum is structured in line with sector needs. The department's training program covers the topics of production, implementation and management of recreational activities. The department offers courses that develop the theoretical and practical knowledge of recreation types, education, health, technology, business, economics, tourism, communication, various activity types, efficiency management and project management. In the department, problem-based education is applied and great importance is given to projects, practice courses, internship training and workplace training to prepare students for working life.

Recreation expertise is a profession that requires the implementation and management of recreational activities. For this reason, recreation experts should have the ability to analytically analyze and develop creative and social communication skills. Faculty members and students are in intensive communication both within and outside the classroom. The fact that there are project assignments in the courses and the students realize these projects under the supervision of instructors is a result of close attention and communication. In addition, assignments are frequently given in the courses which require group work.
Recreation Department has Recreation Electronics Laboratory which is the only laboratory in terms of recreation in Turkey. In this laboratory, individuals with special needs are trained within the scope of Therapeutic Recreation. Many of the students are assigned to this laboratory program. This laboratory can be used in undergraduate courses as well as in graduate courses and final projects. Training period is 8 semesters (4 years). Upon successful completion of the program, students are given a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation. The language of instruction is Turkish. The faculty of recreation department of our faculty makes industrial internship practice. In addition, there are double major and double branch training opportunities in the recreation section.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Depending on the degrees awarded, theoretical or practical courses taken as part of a degree (completed or not completed) may lead to recognition of these as prior learning by the programme administration. The students who have taken courses in another institution in Turkey or abroad can ask for credit and grade transfer. The executive boards of relevant programme will decide on the courses to be transferred covering students' entire academic program once and for all with the condition that the request for transfer be made within the first week of the academic year, the requests cannot be repeated.

A student is required to successfully complete the designated program of courses meet a minimum of 240 ECTS credit requirement and have a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00 and no FF, DZ or YZ grades.

Access to Further Studies

May apply to master's or doctorate programmes in any field or proficiency in fine arts programmes

To get 240 ECTS from bachelor degree and to have 2.00 / 4.00 grade.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

A variety of assessment methods such as mid-term(s), assignment(s), exercise(s), project(s), practice(s), and a final exam are implemented in the programme. Assessment methods may include classical test(s), multiple-choice test(s), homework(s), performance evaluation(s), and product evaluation(s). In order to graduate from the programme, cumulative GPA must be minimum 2.00. A course grade is constituted by evaluating the above stated elements and given by using letters. Letter grades and their associated coefficients are as follows;
1 mid-term exam and 1 final exam
